Mosaic house number

Image
The first project I’ve made thus far using the found glass from the farm land is a house number sign! I think it will be a fun keepsake and reminder of the beginning of our time on the farm ❤️

Feeling green.....

Image
Look at all this pretty green grass growing all on its own out at the farm! Hopefully it will be easy to get sod and grass seed to grow when the time comes! Jerry spent the morning moving the dirt piles to the back of the property. My mom brought us all lunch - Patches graced us with her presence too.  Today’s found treasure! Patches hunting for the mice that were in the piles eating corn.  She is the sweetest dog. Hopefully cooper gets along with her.

Culvert....

To date this has been one of the easiest experiences in this whole process! Last week we were out at the property and a SC DOT Truck had stopped on the road to work on a sign. The builder had told us that in NC the DOT puts the culvert drain pipe in when one is needed. I asked the SC DOT workers if that was an option here and they said absolutely! They gave me the number to their shop to call and request the pipe.  I called on the way home and spoke to a man who took my info and said they’d be out to check it out soon. Monday morning I received a call that he was at the property and wanted to confirm some things with me. Today - Thursday - a week after my initial call, they were out there with their machines, trucks, and multiple men and they had it all installed!  A welcome sight when I came around the curve today! There she is, the beginning of our driveway ❤️ From the road looking in. Once building is done they will pave over this to meet up with our driveway.  The pip...

Glass art ....

Image
We have found quite a large amount of broken glass out at the farm land since we started hunting for treasure - the lavenders and aquas are truly beautiful! I wish I knew their story - how they got there, what they were, and how long they’ve quietly been hiding there....    I have a plan for a good majority of the bits and pieces we find - I’m in the process of making a tutorial that I will share with you once it’s finished - so far I love how it is turning out! The remaining pieces I find will likely turn into stepping stones or other fun little art pieces like the ones I quickly laid out On a piece of paper this morning. A heart or South Carolina? Either way, they both apply! This is all of the glass we’ve found thus far...  If you have any Broken glass or pottery Projects that you’ve made or seen, I’d love to hear about them!

Search and find...

Image
The girls and I have been going out fairly regularly to see what kind of things we can find buried in the dirt. We’ve recently found some new patterns! I’ve had no luck searching them out on the internet with the exception of the white milk glass that says Boyd.  Through a google search it led me to This website  where I learned it was a Boyd’s milk glass jar liner used to prevent the metallic taste of the lid from seeping into the jar’s contents.  Pretty fun find! Princess A searching for lost things... A new floral pattern.  A new scallopy blue green pattern. This one seems pretty old.     The Boyd’s milk glass liner. Check out the link above for more info! An hours worth of finds! As seen in the photo above, there is what appears to be bright orange clay pigeon from someone skeet shooting. We are unsure if all of this is out there from someone using it as flying target practice or if at some time it had been possibly a personal dumping ground of yea...

Treasure day 2.....

Image
Andy went out to the property this morning and took the golf cart with him in the bed of the truck for the girls to drive around on.  We showed up around lunch time and they got right to it. We found a lot more “treasure”!  Hoping we will find even more cool stuff when they start digging for the house!  Princess A found a full vintage ceramic insulator today! Avoiding the dog while trying to steal a bite to eat! This is a new pattern on a shard of whatever it once was... The side of the road is mowed nicely! Probably the first time in many many years. When we bought it you couldn’t even see the for sale sign as it was completely grown over! The second side to the new patterned piece.  These clouds were absolutely amazing! Found quite a bit more glass today too - I LOVE the purple and aqua colors!  If you have any suggestions in cool, artistic ways to display our fun finds Please let me know!

Treasure....

Today was a good day.  Andy and Jerry spent the day out at the property, clearing and burning. I threw the girls’ bikes in the bed of the truck and we went out about 4pm to check on them. Patches, the neighbor dog, immediately greeted us upon arrival. She is such a sweet dog.  Hopefully Cooper will agree with us and be nice to her.  I was meandering around the property and found a couple of pieces of glass...which turned into finding a tiny piece of pottery or something of the like...which turned into the girls on a treasure hunt with me, which turned into Andy turning over more dirt for us with the excavator 😂 In the end we found quite a few pieces just in one area! One piece that was uncovered has the marking of the manufacturer in the bottom but I’ve yet to figure out what it is. It does appear to have the registered R mark on it, which didn’t come around until 1946 so I assume it is newer than that.  If you happen to have any ideas, please drop a line in t...
